The Perola Negra, or “Black Pearl”, as he was also known, wore this yellow soccer jersey with green trim during the first half of the Chile vs. Brazil match in Nacional Stadium of Santiago on October 4, 1970. His scarce and valued signature was obtained during a one-time only signing of his most rare soccer memorabilia at a special Pele Charity Auction held at his own Cafe Pele in Santos, Brazil on November 22, 1972. The charity function aided the handicapped children of Brazil. The other 3 autographs on this shirt are those of Bellini (captain of the first Brazil 1958 World Champion team), Carlos Alberto (captain of the 3-time World Champion Brazil 1970 team) & Roberto Rivelino (World Champion with the 1970 Brazil team who inherited from Pele his legendary Brazil #10 shirt). The brilliant Brazilian athlete, by the name of Edson Arantes do Nascimento (A.K.A. Pele), brought the game of soccer to unimagined heights. During the course of his career, Pele claimed 3 World Cup victories for the Brazilian national soccer team, while leading his squad, Santos, to the World Club title in ’62 & ’63, making them the most recognized team in the world. After he retired in 1974, Pele signed with the New York Cosmos in ’75. His goal was to bring notoriety to the NASL and to popularize soccer in the U.S., and that is just what he did, along with making his name even bigger than it was before. Shirt bears the four signatures on the front. Brazil team patch on left breast with his #10 on verso. “Athleta” tagging in collar. Shirt shows great use. Comes with detailed documentation (LOA) from winner of Pele charity auction.
