Rare silk banner issued in commemoration of the Brooklyn Dodgers' 1949 pennant-winning season. This banner was one of several that were hung in front of City Hall during an official reception for the team following their return home from Philadelphia after winning the pennant on the last day of the season. Accompanying the pennant, and perfect for display alongside it, is a vintage photo of the Dodgers' welcome home ceremony in which three examples of this pennant are shown hanging from the dais. While we are familiar with similar Dodgers banners from other seasons, this is the first we have seen dating from 1949, which also marked Jackie Robinson's MVP season. The large white banner reads "Welcome Brooklyn Dodgers 1949 National League Champions" in multicolored lettering. An illustration of Ebbets Field and the Brooklyn Bridge are displayed in the center. Gold tassels line the bottom border and a metal grommet is in each top corner. The banner (34x36") displays light staining (common to most banners that hung outside and were exposed to the elements) and is otherwise in Excellent condition overall. The photo (10x8") is in Very Good condition.
