LeRoy Nieman was possibly the most popular artist in the United States when he completed this painting celebrating the New York Giants' 39-20 win against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI on January 26, 1987, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Nieman's impressionistic style is readily recognizable as he uses bright colors in his unique form of abstract expressionism. The Giants won Super Bowl XXI, their first ever Super Bowl win and their first NFL Championship since 1956. Phil Simms, the Giant quarterback, completed 22-of-25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns and he was the MVP of the game. The painting shows Simms in the air as he has just launched another pass. The painting is large. It measures 24.5x31.5". It is matted and framed to 30.5x36.5". It is signed by LeRoy Nieman in pencil in the lower right corner.
