Original glass plate negative of Detroit Tigers outfielder Ty Cobb. The image captures Cobb striking a throwing pose on the sideline prior to a game. The notation “Cobb 1908” is etched along the base and the uniform style conforms to that date. 1908 marked Cobb’s fourth professional season and even at that early stage he had already established himself as the game’s greatest hitter. Beginning in 1907, Cobb won nine consecutive batting titles, and in 1908 he led the league in both doubles and triples, one of three times he achieved that feat. The negative (5x7”) remains in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
