Original glass plate negative of New York Giants manager John McGraw conversing with his star pitcher Christy Mathewson prior to a 1911 World Series game against the Philadelphia Athletics at the Polo Grounds. Both McGraw and Mathewson, as well as the other Giants players seen in the background, are wearing all-black uniforms made specially for the 1911 World Series. Mathewson was on the losing end of two of his three starts in the Series, which Philadelphia won four games to two. The negative (7x5”) displays minor flaws along the periphery, as well as a few light scratches in the central image area. VG. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
