Original Type I photograph capturing Babe Ruth and his family at Yankee Stadium. Ruth is pictured posing with his wife Helen and daughter Dorothy, circa 1927. Ruth’s marriage to Helen Woodford was not a happy one, as the expressions on their faces reveal here. Unbeknownst to most at the time, Ruth and Helen were separated at the time of this photo, but Ruth’s Catholic upbringing forbade him from getting a divorce. It was only in 1929, after Helen’s tragic death in a house fire, that Ruth was free to marry his girlfriend of many years, Claire Merritt Hodgson, with whom he remained until his death in 1948. Numerous Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with handwritten identifications and additional markings. The photo measures 7.25x9.25" and displays a horizontal diagonal tear (border to border) that has been repaired with tape on the reverse, as well as light creasing. FR-GD. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
