The game ending hit ball is authenticated by Bill Bevens himself. From storied 4th game of the World Series (1947) at Ebbets Field between the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bevens made World Series history that game. In the bottom of the ninth, a tired but determined Bill Bevens stood on the mound, one out away from pitching the first no-hitter in history. The hitter to deny him was pinch hitter, Harry Arthur “Cookie” Lavagetto. Ironically, this was the last big league game that Bill Bevens or Lavagetto would ever be a part of. This is the famous ball that drove home the tying and winning runs for the Dodgers, robbed Bevens of his no-hitter, won game 4 for the Dodgers, and tied the Series at 2-2. Of course, the Yankees would go on to win the World Series in game 7. Vintage signature in black pen on the sweet spot by Bill Bevens. He has added “WORLD SERIES 1947 Oct. 3, Last ball hit”. Ball is a William Harridge OAL and is a 1947 baseball. LOA. Ex-Barry Halper Collection.
