Long before Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the fictional superhero for Marvel in 1966 and Chadwick Boseman portrayed him on film in 2018, there was Harry Wills, the original Black Panther. The greatest African-American boxer between Johnson and Louis, The Black Panther never got a chance to fight for the Heavyweight Title. Still he was a three-time World Colored Heavyweight Champion. Tremendous image features an unmatched physique for that era. His body looks like that of a professional athlete today. Photographer Harry Tarr's New York City studio seal is stamped at the lower left. Framed 11.75x9.5" (6.5x4.5" visible).
