Stellar history in this 1957-58 Minneapolis Lakers MVP trophy presented to Hall of Famer George Mikan. Original wood base measures 8.5x8.5x5.5", atop which sits a metallic basketball adding another 12" to the height. Plate on one side is engraved, "Minneapolis Lakers Most Valuable Player 1957-58 George Mikan," with some tarnish to the plate. Mikan was a pioneer of the sport during the time when the National Basketball League and Basketball Association of America merged to form the modern day NBA. Standing at 6'10, in addition to his defensive prowess he was a pioneer as a shooting big man, leading the Lakers in scoring for three seasons from 1948-51. Interestingly, Mikan had long since retired by the '57-58 season, which was actually his one-and-only as the team's Head Coach.
