These famous racehorses met only twice during their careers; at the Kentucky Derby and in a match race later that year in 1955. Swaps won the Derby with Nashua getting revenge by over six lengths at Washington Park in Chicago. A unique opportunity to obtain several very rare photographs and four unique negatives with original envelopes. The Kentucky Derby features five photographs of both thoroughbreds preparing for the race, the finish, and Swaps after his win. Nineteen photographs are of the match race including workouts and the horses arriving and preparing for the event. Several show all participants before and after the race, including owners, jockeys, and trainers. Included with the latter are four original and unique negatives of the two jockeys shaking hands before the race, the presentation, and winner's circle.
