Presented here is a pair of sets produced by Bowman in 1953 and 1954. The ’53 Bowman Color set is complete with 221 cards. It is one of the most popular sets of the postwar era. Some of the key cards grade as follows: #32 Musial (EX-MT to NRMT), 33 Reese (EX), 44 Mantle/Berra/Bauer (EX), 46 Campanella (EX-MT+), 59 Mantle (1 ?” surface crease on obverse, o/w EX), 97 Mathews (NRMT+), 114 Feller (EX), 117 Snider (EX+ to EX-MT), 121 Berra (light surface wrinkle on obverse, o/w NRMT), and 153 Ford (very light surface wrinkle on obverse, o/w NM-MT). Set conservatively averages EX-MT with some NRMT examples throughout the set. Great gloss and gorgeous eye appeal highlight the set throughout. The ’54 set contains 214/225 cards. The following numbers are lacking from the set #1 Rizzuto, 64, 89 Mays, 90 Campy, 138, 141, 145, 161 Berra, 163, 170 Snider, and 177. Some of the key cards grade as follows: #15 Ashburn (EX), 58 Reese (EX), 65 Mantle (Poor), 101 Larsen rookie (EX), 132 Feller (EX), etc. Balance of the set averages EX to EX+. As a bonus this lot comes with a Mantle ’53 & Williams ’54 reprint card, which are both autographed. Also included is (8) original ’53 Bowman’s that are autographed.
