Great history in this original from the camera, one of a kind glass plate negative portrait of noted member of the infamous Black Sox, Buck Weaver. The third baseman was implicated in the 1919 scandal, and though he was aware of the fix being perpetrated by some of his teammates, the evidence is far from conclusive as to whether he actively participated in throwing any games. Nattily clad in jacket and hat and with a cigar, this photo relates to Weaver's unsuccessful 1927 attempt at reinstatement to the Major Leagues in the wake of the Ty Cobb/Tris Speaker betting scandal. Measures 4x5" with slight chip to bottom corner but central image is unblemished. Comes with original envelope with ID in pencil and Jan 18 1927 stamped.
