Stunning and rare pin from the second of two Mickey Mantle days which were held at Yankee Stadium. The first in 1969 featured the retirement of his number 7 and Joe DiMaggio giving the Mick his plaque to be placed next to his own in the original House that Ruth Built. The second was August 25, 1996, in the renovated Yankee Stadium. The Mick's new monument was unveiled on that occasion in Monument Park behind the centerfield fence. These pins were to be worn on the players’ hats that day but were deemed unsafe because of the post on the back side and were ultimately not worn. We have handled only a couple of these over the years, and they are considered very rare and desirable. Measures about 1" in diameter, in NRMT condition.
