Interesting history in this game used Easton stick relating to two of hockey's all-time greats. Two-piece stick is one of those used by Wayne Gretzky on March 24th, 1997 as his New York Rangers played the Pittsburgh Penguins in what was billed as his last game against Mario Lemieux. Aluminum X-stiff blade is attached to an Easton blade on which the tape has been removed, signed and dated “3-24-1997” by Lemieux with “948” written in black marker on the butt end. Super Mario announced his retirement in 1997 to fight his recurring Hodgkins Lymphoma, and while The Great One played two more seasons, he was the one in retirement when Lemieux returned to competition in 2000, eventually playing five more seasons.
