November 4, 1961, Ernie Davis game worn jersey and game ball from Syracuse vs. Pittsburgh, won by the Orangemen in a 28-9 final. Jersey shows nice use with proper Wilson size 48 tagging on crotch flap and number 44 stitched to front and back in black-on-orange tackle twill. Game ball has traditional orange and blue paint on the panel reading "Syracuse - 28, Pittsburgh - 9" and there was once a beautiful signature of Ernie's on one of the panels but it has faded from heavy usage. Davis presented this ball to a youngster himself after the game at the Syracuse Hotel and included is a photo of Ernie giving this exact ball to the young boy; lot also comes with an LOA from that recipient. Ball does not hold air but presents nicely nonetheless; a poignant reminder of the 1961 Heisman Trophy winner, who passed away tragically young at age 23 from leukemia before having the chance to play his first NFL game.
