Issued during the years 1934 - 1937, these matchbook covers were a popular collector’s item for anyone who smoked (and who didn’t?) during that period. Baseball, football and movie stars – all were subjects that found their way onto these popular matchbook covers. Baseball subjects (30) include Ott (2), Durocher, Van Mungo, Hubbell (2), Frisch, Fitzsimmons (2), Hartnett (2) and Medwick. Movie stars (17) include Charles Laughton, John Barrymore, Randolph Scott, Vivien Leigh, Buster Crabbe, Wallace Beery and Joan Crawford; 5 football players are also included. Condition is what would be expected for used matchbook covers, with about 1/3 being in rather nice shape, and 4 baseball covers still retaining the striker portion of the cover. Nice lot for the ‘30’s ephemera collector. Total of 52 cards.
