Remarkable autograph book features 116 signatures that were all obtained in person by Andre Beaumont, head chef of the New York City watering hole circa 1947-52. The ultimate representation of post-war Manhattan, this fine keepsake is loaded with big names from all walks of life and is eminently discriminating as there is no one but the most rich and famous. Best of all is a singular page with a perfect Babe Ruth signature and below a vintage Joe DiMaggio with the added inscription, "It's an honor under Ruth." Other highlights include Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney and Max Baer together; Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Truman, Hank Greenberg "Detroit Tigers," Leo Durocher (known for his taste for the nightlife), Clem McCarthy with horse racing drawing, and more.
Many examples have added flourishes and drawings such as cartoonist Soglow (Little King), Ham Fisher (Joe Palooka), Willard Brown with Glamour girl drawing and Albert Dorne with self-portrait.
Film and entertainment stars are amazing and include Elizabeth Taylor (joined by her parents in 1947), Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Mary Pickford. Because of the level of publicity for celebrities at the club, photographs exist of most of them there, for example, teenage Liz Taylor with her parents.
Comes with PSA LOA.
