Very colorful, assorted military-themed lot, made up of 4 sets from the 1930’s and 40’s:
- 1938 R99 WS Corp. ‘Nightmare of Warfare’ – near set of 47/48 (numbered 901-948), missing only #917 for completion. Nice, balanced set depicting the horrors of war. Cards grade 15% EX, 40% VG-EX, 35% GD-VG and 10% FR-GD.
- 1939 WS & Co. ‘Generals and Their Flags’ (R58) and ‘Heroes of the Sea’ (R67) combined set of 48 (#’s 425-472), depicting military heroes of both land and sea. Virtually all cards are NM or better and appear to have scarcely been handled.
- 1942 R18 WS Corp. ‘Army, Navy and Air Corps’ – near set of 47/48 (numbered 601-648), missing only #619 for completion. Again, virtually all cards are NM or better and appear to have scarcely been handled, just separated at perforations.
- 1942 R168 MP & Co. ‘War Scenes’ – near set of 47/48 (numbered 101-148), missing only #103 for completion. A second partial set comprised of #’s 125-148 (except for 131 and 141) is also included. Cards are uniformly high grade, with 20% EX-MT, 45% EX, 20% VG-EX and 15% only slightly lesser, mostly due to pulls at the perforations.
A handful of cards from ‘Defending America’ (8, PR-GD) and ‘America at War’ (6, PR-GD), both produced by WS Corp of NYC, are also included.
A great start to collecting some popular 30’s and 40’s military issues!
Total: 203 cards.
