Great circa 1908 image of Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson. The first black champ in the division's history is pictured in a head-and-shoulders image with broad bare chest in the shot. Couple of small chips to edges but negative is in great shape to reproduce images. In 1908, Johnson won the title for the first time, spurring a succession of "Great White Hope" challengers, who were handled with dispatch as he held the crown until 1915. Brown Brothers negative from their massive collection as a photo aggregation service.
