As desirable as they are rare, Muller baseball statues are always in high demand. Created by one of the most prolific artists of the time, this "striker" stands at 10" tall, is clutching the bat and is waiting for the pitch. This statuette was originally one of a pair, the other being a pitcher. Note that the "striker" has long pants, with a belt at the bottom of each pant leg. This was a common method of securing the pants so that they were not in the way or clipped by cleats. The introduction of the knickers by the Cincinnati Red Stockings that very year (1868) would ultimately win out as the best method of avoiding problems with loose pant legs. This extremely lifelike and highly detailed casting is labeled K. Muller & J Deacon Pat 1868 just below the striker's feet and the underside reads, "N. Muller - NY - N: 533 - Patent 1868." The bat has been replaced/restored and there are some chips in the paint noticed.
