On August 30, 1894, the fifth day of the fall meeting, there were three important stakes races, all won by Hall of Fame jockeys. The Reapers Stakes was won by Willie Simms (elected in 1977) and Anthony Hamilton (2012) was victorious in the Sapphire Stakes. The feature of the day was the Ocean Handicap won by the Hall of Fame horse, Domino, with Fred Taral (1955) up. Domino was dominant on the race track and also elected to Saratoga’s Hall in 1955 as part of the museum’s inaugural selection process. Interestingly, Domino, although not a mean horse, disliked jockey Taral immensely and always tried to injure him whenever possible. Trainer Lakeland would cover Domino’s head before giving the jockey a leg up. The program has outstanding graphics with no writing and in Near Mint condition, especially for its age.
