Mike Schmidt teed off on his 548th and final Major League homer while poised over this very home plate on May 2, 1989. The artifact was signed by the Hall of Fame third baseman with "#548" inscription and arrow pointing where he hit it, and it is housed in a 25x26" display case. It was also signed by the pitcher who surrendered the blast - Houston Astros lefty and current Cubs broadcaster Jim DeShaies. A ticket stub from the game is also included. Schmidt's two-run shot down the left-field line in the bottom of the first gave his team a 2-1 lead that night, though Houston wound up spoiling the party and winning, 12-4. Schmidt would go on to play 18 more games before deciding to hang up his cleats at the end of the month.
