Great content in this simple 8.5x11" typewritten letter with great historical import. On his own Leroy "Satchell" Paige stationery, the Hall of Fame hurler is writing to black journalist Dan Burley on the subject of resurrecting Negro League baseball in New York City following the demise of the New York Black Yankees. Dated April 29, 1948, Paige writes, "I can put a winning ball club in New York if I can get the franchise from Simlar," adding that "... I will have the best ball club New York have ever saw (sic) and that is saying a lot." Just two months after writing this letter, Paige was signed to pitch for the Cleveland Indians, helping them to a World Series crown. Signed in full in black ink, has a couple of small tears and tiny chips at two corners along with mailing folds, a historic document from the days of black baseball's last hurrah.
