Japanese Menko cards were sold to children as both a game card and something to collect. There was a propaganda component to some cards, especially the ones dating from the 1920s and '30s. Images of actors, comedians, or political figures would be mixed in with the comic characters and superheroes that would appeal to children. They were sold in sheets and individually. Some Menko have images (in a single color) on the reverse side.
