This incredibly important complete uniform was worn by actor Tom Hanks in the acclaimed 1992 movie "A League of Their Own" as manager Jimmy Dugan of the Rockford Peaches. The uniform includes the jersey, pants, cap, belt and leggings that were worn by the two-time Oscar winner in the film. The belt has a swatch missing on the back but does not affect the display quality. In the film, which was directed by the recently departed Penny Marshall, Dugan is portrayed as an alcoholic ex-superstar who hit almost 500 home runs, including 58 in 1936. The filmmakers have denied that the role was based on slugger Jimmie Foxx, also an alcoholic that hit just over 500 dingers including 58 in 1932. Perhaps most tellingly, Foxx was the manager for the Fort Wayne Daisies of the same All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the early 1950s. Either way, Hanks made Dugan purely his own. Previously framed and accompanied by the plaque that was in the frame, reading "Uniform Worn by Tom Hanks, A League of Their Own, 1992."
