Addendum: The caption on the back attests to it being featured for Gehrig's 24th circuit drive (the type on the caption was hand annotated to 26). We believe this image to be a Type I photograph circa 1927. This is based off the fact Ruth scored his 24th on 6/22/27 and Gehrig hit his 24th on 6/29/27. This photo was also used for the cover of the 1928 Sporting News Record Book.
Iconic pose of the Iron Horse. This 6.5x8.5" photo of Lou Gehrig was featured in The Sporting News as Gehrig had just tied Babe Ruth for the league lead in home runs. On the back is a typed description reading, "NEW YORK CITY - Lou Gehrig, first baseman of the New York Yankees and leading batsman of the American League, ties Babe Ruth for the season's home run record by scoring his 26th circuit drive. -PHOTO SHOWS-Close-up of Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth's rival."
