Memento relating to one of the infamous "Eight Men Out," this is a 1911 Buck Weaver handwritten Heilbroner Baseball Bureau card. Heilbroner collected cards for thousands of players over the years. This is the original card sent to Weaver in 1911 and it is stamped on the front of the card. Heilbroner would then send these cards back to update the teams that each player played for. On the back of this one, Weaver wrote his team history up to 1920: "1910 Cleveland N.T, 1910 Northampton York, 1910 Chicago A. N.T, 1911 San Francisco [Seals], 1911 Chicago A." and then when he was sent the card in 1920, Weaver wrote "19" and "20" with quotes representing he was still Chicago A [White Sox]. On the front, in 1920, Weaver corrected his batting info and wrote "1920 B" meaning he became a switch hitter. Louis Heilbroner Baseball Bureau logo on top right on front. At one point, this was sent to Weaver after he was deceased as someone placed an article onto the back stating he had passed. Hence the "Dead" handwritten on the front.

2019 marks the 100th Anniversary of the most infamous scandal in sports history. The 1919 World Series was the scene of the crime, the culprits were eight members of the Chicago “Black Sox” and the crime was game fixing. Shoeless Joe Jackson and seven other members of the “Black Sox” were subsequently banned from baseball three years later and that ban still stands to this day.
