Iconic campaign poster features "Champions of Al Smith" stumping for the 1928 Democratic Presidential candidate. Incredible spread of athletes features such legends as Babe Ruth, Knute Rockne, John McGraw, Francis Ouimet, James Corbett, Gene Tunney and more. [Interestingly these are all Christy Walsh athletes.] Features the "World's Champion Yankees" of 1927 and lists the members of the heralded “greatest” team ever. Only a handful of copies are known of one of the classic pieces of sports memorabilia. It was actually it was one of legendary collector Barry Halper’s favorite pieces. Framed to overall 36x30". The nicest specimen we have seen. There is some minor creasing with small paper loss towards the upper right corner. Al Smith of course lost the election to Republican Herbert Hoover despite the very visible backing of Babe Ruth (as evidenced by this piece here). Much of the failure of Smith is accredited to his being a New "Yawka” and Irish Catholic. He did, however, blaze the trail for the up and coming Jack Kennedy some years later.
