Joltin' Joe as just a rookie. The great Yankee Clipper was a star right from the start, hitting .323 with 29 homers and 125 RBI in his first big league season. Two (2) Type II photographs by George Burke, also the photographer of the 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams rookie. Comes from the same photo shoot from which one of the images were used for his 1940 and 1941 Play Ball cards. The image of DiMaggio holding the bat horizontally is the same pose as Jimmie Foxx on his 1940 and 1941 Play Ball cards. Produced in the 1960s, likely by George Brace. Measures 5x7" with back border. Beautiful image of Joe DiMaggio. Top labeled "1936, 888 A5" on each. In this same auction we have THE image used for the Play Ball cards, and it has the same label. "Joe DiMaggio" handwritten on back, likely in Brace's hand.
