In 1938, Gum Inc. produced perhaps the most iconic of all non-sport sets, Horrors of War. Depicting violent and sometimes gruesome images from the Sino-Japanese war and the early days of World War II, this set quickly became the one to have for the youths of the day, and continues to be one of the most popular non-sports sets to collectors today. The low number cards (1-48) grade a fairly uniform VG, with about 10% better and a similar number lesser. The remaining cards (including the second series, #’s 241-288) grade somewhat higher at mostly VG-EX, with 15% nicer and 10% lesser. The keys to the set are #1 (G, creases), #277 (VG), #283 (G-VG) and #286 (G-VG, oc). A very acceptable and complete example of a great nonsport issue!
