In 1938, Gum Inc. produced perhaps the most iconic of all non-sport sets, Horrors of War. Depicting violent and sometimes gruesome images from the Sino-Japanese war and the early days of World War II, this set quickly became the one to have for the youth of the day, and continues to be one of the most popular non-sports sets to collectors today. The low number cards (1-48) grade a fairly uniform VG to VG-EX, with about 10% better and a similar number lesser. The remaining cards (including the second series, #s 241-288) grade somewhat higher at mostly EX, with 15% nicer and 15% lesser. Three (3) cards have been professionally graded: #1 (PSA 3.5), #277 (PSA 2) and #283 (PSA 2); card #286 grades VG-EX with light surface loss on the front borders. A fine, complete example of a great non-sport issue.
