Goodwin’s Old Judge multi-subject lithographic issues of 1886 are the first American tobacco issues to include boxers. N167 includes three boxers sporting a vertically aligned back (Jim Carney, Jem Smith and McAuliffe [his first name, Jack, is not printed]) and a different Jem Smith with a horizontal format reverse. They are considered rare in any condition. This card of Jem Smith with the vertical back is graded accurately but looks nicer than the technical grade because the creases on the card do not affect the image or the logo.
