In 1938, Gum Inc. produced perhaps the most iconic of all non-sport sets, Horrors of War. Depicting violent and sometimes gruesome images from the Sino-Japanese war and the early days of World War II, this set quickly became the one to have for the youths of the day, and continues to be one of the most popular non-sports sets to collectors today. The entire set (including the more difficult second series, #s 241-288) grades a fairly uniform EX, with about 15% better and 10% lesser. Five (5) cards have been professionally graded: #190 (PSA 2), #224 (PSA 7), #231 (PSA 3), #232 (PSA 5) and #240 (PSA 3). The keys to the set are #1 (VG, slight paper loss on front), #277 (strong EX+), #283 (EX+, light scuff on back) and #286 (EX). Overall, a nicely balanced set of one of the greatest non-sport issues!
