Very rare and fun find. Three Stooges signed baseball
features Larry Fine, Curly Joe DeRita and Moe Howard. Handwritten "To
Stanley, Sincerely The 3 Stooges," in blue ballpoint ink in Moe Howard's
hand. Moe signs "Moe" in the same blue ballpoint ink. One of the
other two signatures is in black or faded blue ballpoint ink and is signed
"Curly-Joe." Curly Howard along with Moe Howard and Larry Fine made
over 90 Columbia Pictures short films during the Three Stooges peak years of
1934-1946. After Curly Howard suffered a serious stroke in May 1946, Shemp
Howard, Joe Besser, and then again Shemp Howard played "The Third
Stooge" role. When Shemp Howard also suffered a debilitating stroke, noted
comedian Joe DeRita, selected for his comic ability and an appearance similar
to Curly Howard, assumed the "Third Stooge" role. He was referred to
as Curly Joe DeRita to distinguish him from Curly Howard. The ball is also
signed by Larry Fine. This Larry Fine signature is very faint, but clearly
visible under black light photo, as exhibited on LOA online. All three
signatures are clearly written. JSA/LOA. James W. Brine Official League Ball is
VG-EX with some spotting.
