Astounding colors make this 12-card set (uncut at 9.25x10") a beautiful issue. Gum, Inc., who produced the Play Ball cards, had produced their first sets in 1939 and 1940, but they were in black and white. This 1941 set had colors that burst upon the viewer. Using an almost Art Deco look of the 1934-36 Diamond Stars combined with the comic look of the 1938 Goudey cards, this set's color is amazing. Even the backgrounds are often multi-colored. The uncut sheet was a promotional item, with the cards made of paper. Each card measures 2.5x3.13". The backs feature a lengthy biography. Hall of Famers are: Ted Williams, Foxx, Greenberg, Cronin, Ruffing, and Gehringer. World War II, and the resulting shortage of gum, caused Gum, Inc. to stop production of their cards, but the company resurfaced after World War II as Bowman and renewed the card production. The cheerful colors of these vintage cards will enhance anyone's day and take one back to the last season before the outbreak of war. Condition is NM.
