Two champs in one photo. Here are two great winners meeting, most likely shortly after their careers. Ironically, these men had great moments only weeks apart at Yankee Stadium in the fall of 1955. On September 21st, Marciano fought his last fight, knocking out Archie Moore and maintaining his World Heavyweight Championship, retiring undefeated with 49 victories. A few weeks later, the Brooklyn Dodgers with Robinson hurt and missing his only World Series game ever, won their only World Series, defeating the New York Yankees in the Seventh Game 2-0. Robinson retired after the next season. Jackie is wearing the same coat he wore during his last year with the Dodgers. Jackie Robinson was respected for his punching ability too, and was regarded as one of the toughest men in baseball. He didn't fight much because few in baseball wanted to be his opponent. Here's Robinson reaching out to take Marciano's hand. Wonderfully clear photo in excellent condition. Measures 8x10".
