"He has no weaknesses as a hitter. Pitch him inside, outside, high, low, fast stuff, breaking balls - anything you throw he can handle. He swings with the pitch; that is why he's so great." - Jim "Catfish" Hunter on Rod Carew. The greatest hitter of his generation, Rodney Cline Carew was an 18-time All-Star, 7-time batting champion, the 1967 A.L. Rookie of the Year, and the 1977 AL MVP. A lifetime .328 hitter, Carew registered over 3,000 hits and was a terror on the basepaths, exemplified by his seven steals of home in 1969 (five of which were in the first inning). Here is a fabulous Carew gamer from the dawn of the knit era and the peak of his career. The road powder blue pullover displays "Twins" scripted across the chest on an upward diagonal with "29" offset below and to the right, as well as on the verso, all sewn on in fire engine red on midnight navy tackle twill. A Twin Cities team patch resides on the left sleeve while blue/white/red trim adorns the collar and sleeve cuffs. Collar tagging includes a "Wilson 42" label and a white cloth swatch with "73 Set 1" navy blue chain link below. Furthermore, the jersey is signed on the front, large and bold, in black Sharpie. Best of all, this exemplar exhibits tremendous game wear evidenced by pliable identifiers, fraying, and a hint of chewing tobacco residue in the vicinity of the autograph. Carew compiled one of his greatest seasons during the year that he wore this jersey, batting an MLB-high .350 with 203 hits, 30 doubles, 11 triples, 41 steals, and only 55 k's in 657 plate appearances. For his efforts, he placed fourth in the MVP balloting. A remarkable specimen worthy of the most discerning uniform collections.
