Premium book with 50 printed images (1.5x2.5") of sporting cards printed on pages. Comes with original mailing envelope where it was sold collector to collector in 1962. EX-MT Beautiful copy. Incredible book in Excellent condition containing images of complete set of fifty cards, in color. Book itself (5.75x7.25"), in wonderful color, is charmingly bound and tied with original string through two punched holes in the cover. The printed images of cards provide a fascinating look at sports 130 years ago. Four professional baseball cards are included: Dell Darling, Chicago White Stockings (forerunner of the White Sox), as a champion catcher; E.A. Burch, Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers (before the "Trolley" departed their name), as a champion fielder; Hardie Henderson, Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers, as a champion pitcher; Tip O'Neill, St. Louis Browns (forerunner of the Baltimore Orioles), as a champion batter. Includes intriguing oddities: Think women's boxing is relatively new? Not really. Champion female boxer Hattie Stewart is included. Axel Paulsen, for whom the Axel Jump in figure skating is named, is appears as a champion skater. Amazingly, he was also a speed skater as well, holding world records! In a poignant sign of the segregated society of the times, Issac Murphy's card appears as a "Champion Colored Jockey." Great addition to any collection for both its historical value and its vivid art.
