In 1888 W.S. Kimball & Co. issued a 50-card set of ‘Champions of Games and Sports’ (N184), and produced them two ways – with or without the company name showing on top. In it were many of the champion athletes of the day, including boxing greats such as Jack Dempsey, John L. Sullivan, Tommy Warren (Lightweight World Boxing Champion), Jim Smith (English Heavyweight Champ) and Hattie Stewart (Female World Boxing Champion). This collection contains a total of 20 with the Kimball logo showing on top (with 1 duplicate) and 9 without it (2 are duplicates). The Dempsey and Sullivan are not included in this collection and most cards are FR-GD, with most having some back damage from being pasted in a book at one time. An interesting tobacco issue of world athletes from 1888.
