Jake Kilrain was among the most important heavyweight fighters challenging John L. Sullivan in the late 1880s. He was so important that Richard Fox of the Police Gazette, constantly feuding with Sullivan, decided to name him champion. In celebration of the new champion, Fox issued this glorious advertising silk of Jake Kilrain circa 1888. It pictures Kilrain in center in full fight pose and his image is amazingly strong. Kilrain is surrounded by his colors which are nearly as vibrant today as the day this silk was issued. Despite minor pulls and very slight age spotting, this is unquestionably one of the finest boxing silks to be offered at public sale. 32x30".
