Important award in the form of a twin-handled, silver plated loving cup, 7", presented by the Touchdown Club to Pittsburgh Pirates' manager Danny Murtaugh as the 1960 Baseball Manager of the Year Award. Mautaugh had a 29-year association with the Pirates as a beloved player, manager, and executive. The Pirates went 95-59 to take the National League pennant in 1960 and faced the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Yankees more than doubled the runs the Pirates scored in the Series as New York plated 55 runs to Pittsburgh's 27. But the Series doesn't pay off on total runs, just wins, and in the Seventh Game, Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski came up as the first batter in the bottom of the 9th inning with the score tied at 3-3. Mazeroski hit the second pitch from Ralph Terry deep to left. Yankee left fielder Yogi Berra had no chance as the ball easily sailed into the stands and gave Pittsburgh the Series. Mazeroski was noted for his defense, particularly in turning double plays from his second base position, but this lifetime .260 hitter without much power became a slugger in these games as this homer was his second in the Series. What a magnanimous gesture for Murtaugh, a past Pittsburgh second baseman, to gift his Manager of the Year to the Mazeroski, the then-current Pittsburgh second baseman who won the World Series for him. Award stamped on the bottom by English Silver Company and in NRMT condition, but for some tarnishing. The award comes with a Letter of Provenance from Mazeroski.
