The Jack Johnson scrapbook offered here belonged to Watson Burns, who was Johnson's trainer and close friend. It contains original photographs (twenty-nine), telegrams (three), a handwritten letter, and numerous period newspaper clippings.
Original photographs include four gorgeous Dana photos from the 1910 Johnson-Jeffries bout (with Johnson, Jeffries, and John L. Sullivan); Johnson at training camp; Johnson photo postcard; and President Roosevelt in the ring.
1911 telegram reads "Find Watson Burns and tell him to be ready to leave for London as I am sending tickets tomorrow as I want him to train me for the Wells fight. Jack Johnson."
Also, a 1915 letter to Watson Burns from his son and a 1938 postcard addressed to "Watson W. Burns."
