Interesting Ty Cobb photo (trimmed to 7x9.5"). Immortal Cobb played 24 years in the Major Leagues, all but the final two seasons with the Detroit Tigers. Hall of Famer Cobb's final two years were 1927 and 1928 when he was with the Philadelphia A's, managed by the great Connie Mack. Even at age 40, Cobb was still productive, hitting .357 with 104 runs and 93 RBI in 1927. The next year, he played less and still hit .323. Look at Cobb's grip on his bat. He came into the majors in 1905, when trying to hit long balls was frowned upon because with the "dead ball" then being used, fly balls usually resulted in outs, so place-hitting was the preferred mode of batting. Thus Cobb separated his hands in order to have increased bat control, and he continued in this vein even after the "lively ball" was introduced. Many American League Service Bureau stamps on verso. Photo has some creasing along the periphery, a small tear in the lower right corner and a few other minor tears. Also, there is some spotting. The center of the image of Cobb is clear and unmarked.
