The ultimate film noir movie poster. Stunning one-sheet for "This Gun For Hire." Great film noir poster for this 1942 film based upon a novel of the same name from Graham Greene. Pictured on the poster are blonde bombshell Veronica Lake and Hollywood legend Alan Ladd. Veronica Lake was a huge star in the 1940s, and a pin-up girl in World War II. Famous for her "peek-a-boo" hairstyle, she changed this hairstyle at the government's urging during the war because the government wanted to encourage women to adopt short, practical hairstyles so women's hair wouldn't get caught in machinery during the manufacture of war equipment. The hairstyle change probably saved lives, but it hurt her popularity. Her co-stars in the movie were Robert Preston and Alan Ladd. Preston is her love interest as a police lieutenant hunting down assassin Ladd, whom Lake helps escape. The colorful poster visually tells viewers what the film is about in clear pictorial terms: A gorgeous blond, shadows, a man in a hat and trenchcoat, and a revolver. That says it all. Great, broad colors. Poster measures 27x41" and is mounted on linen. Some restoration but NM in appearance.
