Wonderful lithographs (20) commemorating the famous 1987 America's Cup victory by Skipper Dennis Conner and crew of the yacht "Stars And Stripes" . The America's Cup, first awarded in 1851, is the oldest continuously awarded international sporting award in the world. Conner had lost the America's Cup in Fremantle, Australia by 4 races to 3, in 1983, the first time in 132 years that the United States had lost. He created a syndicate, built four new four-metre sailboats and initiated innovative physical training and sailing practice by now full-time professional yachtsman. The best of the new boats, Stars And Stripes 87, was entered against the Australian boat Kookaburra III in the races at San Diego. In a heavily watched series of televised races, Stars And Stripes won by 4 races to nil to win back the Cup. Beautifully colored lithographs feature Conner, Stars And Stripes sailing, a small chart of the course, and the America's Cup. Each lithograph measures 19.5x25" and has been hand-signed in pencil by Conner as well as hand-signed by artist Michael Elins. Lithographs are individually hand-numbered in pencil. Numbers 17-20, 34-41, 194-200, and 166 out of 500.
