Realistic mid-career painting of Sugar Ray Robinson, judged by many - including "The Ring" - to be "pound-for-pound" the best boxer in history. In 1977, the Boxing Writers of America voted him the best overall fighter of all-time. Robinson fought professionally from 1940-65. He held the World Middleweight Championship five times and the World Welterweight Championship once. The painting was completed after he regained the middleweight title back from Randy Turpin. The unknown artist has signed "Ruth 12-51" at the bottom of the work. Has some scratching and chipping. Framed 21x25".
