Billed on poster as "Heavyweight Fight of the Year." Earlier, Jerry Quarry and Tony Alongi fought to a wild draw at Madison Square Garden on March 4th of 1966, and less than three months later were to meet again, on May 27th at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Both were heavyweight contenders, with the 20-year-old Quarry being undefeated. In the earlier fight, Quarry had accused Alongi of numerous low blows. Promoters of the Los Angeles rematch emphasized a geographical rivalry, boosting Quarry, on home turf as a Californian, as the Western hope, and Alongi, from New Jersey, as the Eastern star. Poster states that Quarry is Ring Magazine's pick as the "Next Heavyweight Champ." The result of the rematch was a second draw. Later, Quarry became yet another "Great White Hope," but lost two times to both Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. Some staining, some chafing at corners, but overall, poster is in satisfactory condition. Interestingly, the handsome Quarry, still with his looks intact, went on to become an actor, appearing in a recurring role in the TV series Adam-12.
