Captivating broadside promoting World Championship Wrestling match between Champion Colonel James Hiram McLaughlin and challenger Jacob Martin. Poster touts the "Last and Final Meeting of the Michigan Giants". Scheduled for Oct. 16, 1876, in New York City's Central Park Garden, this is the third bout between McLaughlin and Martin (wrestling "giants" who both lived in Michigan), the earlier two contests ending in draws. McLaughlin, is generally regarded as the first professional wrestling champion of the United States. Broadside advertises a "Collar and Elbow" style match, as McLaughlin had inadvertently killed an earlier opponent in the rougher catch-as-catch-can style. Framed at 9.5x21.5", the B&W broadside also includes a B&W 3.5x5" photo of McLaughlin. Valuable historical keepsake from the formative days of pro wrestling.
