This is a super rare style that was used by the Reds in the late 1950's and early 1960's. In fact, the only others we have handled have also been from the Bernie Stowe Collection. Odds are that several Reds greats have put this on their heads. Back in the day, helmets were in short supply and shared by members of a team. This one has "7 1/2" written between the lines of the "C" on the front. Also, some letters above the "C" that can no longer be made out. Helmet shows a few seasons worth of use with abrasions and pin tar throughout. Green shell has been painted white and red with some of the paint flaked exposing the bare shell. "C" is hand painted on the front and a red dot hand painted on the top. Inside is the American Baseball Cap sticker indicating again that it is a size 7 1/2. Just a few minor cracks in no way affecting the visual appeal.

Bernie Stowe was with the Cincinnati Reds for an unbelievable 67 consecutive years.  As head equipment manager, he worked every Reds game until his retirement in 2013.  As a beloved member of the Cincinnati Reds, many of the players would give him mementos and over the years, he received and saved many.  This unique piece of Reds memorabilia is from his personal collection and is being offered for the first time.
