Founded in 1942, Leones de Caracas is a baseball franchise which plays in the Venezuelan Baseball League. To date, they have won twenty league championships and two Caribbean World Series titles making them the most successful club in Venezuelan pro baseball history. Would be Hall of Famer Pete Rose played winter ball with Leones del Caracas during the 1964-65 season to improve his batting. Other big league stars to play with the ball club include Luis Aparicio, Vic Davalillo, Cesar Tovar, Chico Carrasquel, Andres Galaraga, and Bo Diaz. Home white knit button-down jersey displays blue pinstripes with “Caracas 2” across the chest and “Seguros Caracas 25” on the verso, sewn on in blue/navy tackle twill and screened on in red. Furthermore, an oval “CBC” team patch adorns the left sleeve. The jersey is completely original and shows tremendous game wear. [Note: Leones de Caracas B.B.C. and Seguros Caracas de Liberty Mutual Insurance Company are both subsidiaries of the Cisneros Group of Companies.] Leones del Caracas has retired eleven numbers to date, including number “25,” which was worn by former Major League catcher Bo Diaz who was tragically killed when a satellite dish fell on him in 1990. While we have been unable to find photographic evidence that Diaz did in fact wear this jersey, it does date from the era when he played with the team (1972-90).
